Common warning signs

Warning signs include a rapid move away from the platform, inconsistent personal details, copied photographs, scripted replies, unexpected links, requests for money or codes, claims that payment proves seriousness, and sudden emergencies.

Sexual blackmail

A scammer may request intimate media and then threaten to send it to contacts, relatives, or an employer. Do not pay. Payment rarely creates control over copied material and can lead to repeated demands.

Stop contact where safe, secure affected accounts, preserve relevant evidence, report the profile and threat, and contact police or a specialist support service.

Protect your accounts

Use a unique password, multi-factor authentication where available, separate dating contact details, and privacy settings that limit access to contact lists. Never share a one-time code, recovery phrase, banking credential, or identity document with a match.

Check without becoming intrusive

Look for a consistent story and use proportionate verification. Reverse-image checking can sometimes reveal copied photographs. A brief live conversation may help. Do not demand intimate media or official documents as proof.

If you clicked a suspicious link

Close the page, do not enter more information, change exposed passwords from a trusted device, review account sessions, contact the relevant bank if financial details were entered, and preserve the link for a report without forwarding it to others.

Support is practical

Scammers depend on secrecy and shame. Tell a trusted person where possible. Reporting quickly can protect your accounts and may help prevent the same profile targeting other adults.
